The Terracotta Army’s purpose was to help Qin Shi Huang rule another empire in the afterlife.

The terracotta warriors are one of the most fascinating finds belonging to the ancient world. Located in central China, the terracotta warriors are solid sculptures of soldiers, servants, horses, chariots, strongmen and musicians that were discovered to be a part of Emperor Qin Shi Huang's mausoleum. Ranging in size ranked by social status (generals were the tallest), these warriors are estimated to be numbered at 8000.

These funerary gifts were specially crafted and kept in Emperor Qin Shi Huang's tomb to guard over him and to accompany him to the afterlife. Originally discovered in 1974 by farmers digging a well, the soldiers were found roughly seven feet underground, packed in the dirt, in remarkable condition despite being over two thousand years old. There are signs that the soldiers were once colorfully painted, and each individual warrior is incredibly detailed and uniquely designed.

The area where the terracotta army was discovered is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its cultural significance in the world. Some of the pieces have gone on tour to various museums, drawing incredible crowds everywhere around the world.
